The R1 for everyone The Yamaha FZ1 is one of those rare and very special motorcycles that combine stunning performance with equal amounts of practicality. Its formidable powerplant is a torque-tuned version of the legendary R1 supersports engine, in a superb sports touring package of suspension, ergonomics and geometry. The compact dimensions of the engine have provided Yamaha’s engineers the perfect platform around which to build a neat, compact masterpiece of road going excellence, with optimal front wheel weight bias and mass centralisation. It’s a motorcycle with outstanding levels of all-day riding comfort, due to its beautifully balanced road going suspension and big-ride friendly stance, not to mention sweet handling and responsive road manners. When you feel the need to turn the wick up, all you have to do is open the throttle - on the engine that won the Australian Nakedbike championship in 2005 and 2006 - to find out why the FZ1 is the most performancepacked litre sports tourer on the planet. Fuel injected powerhouse: R1-style fuel injection with computer-controlled sub-throttle valves provides precise fuel/air mixture for superb power delivery across the entire rev range. Closed-deck cylinder block provides great strength while allowing a narrow engine in spite of big, 77mm bores. Five-valve efficiency: Narrow-angle five-valve combustion chambers produce a highly efficient 11.5:1 compression ratio, while big valves and high-lift cams flow plenty of air. Mean and green: Four-into-one chamberless shortstyle exhaust contains stainless steel EXUP and threeway catalyst with O2 sensor for outstanding power delivery throughout the rev range and low emissions. Adjustable suspension: Adjustable suspension at both ends lets the FZ1 be dialled in for a wide range of uses - everything from track days to urban assault to sport touring. High-capacity cooling: Curved high-capacity radiator with twin ring-style fans keeps everything cool under all conditions.
